The Sunny Side of Singapore is home to a caring, inclusive and vibrant community where everyone has a sense of belonging and a role to play. Transformations under the East Coast Plan has been in motion since 2020, with many programmes and town planning updates launched together with residents, community partners and volunteers.

Together, we can build a caring community, create a vibrant environment and shape a green future.

STEP 1

Think about this.

As a resident, what do you love about East Coast as a
caring, vibrant and green place to live, work and play?

STEP 2

Choose a category and express your answer
according to the instructions for your selected category.

Open Category

(Open to East Coast GRC residents of all ages)

  • Create a 2-dimensional (flat), up to A3-sized artwork using any medium (e.g. crayon, colour pencils, paint, etc)

    OR

    Film a 30 to 60-second video in landscape orientation (narration or subtitling must be in English as the common language)
  • Entries must reflect at least 1 of the following themes:
    • Caring
    • Vibrant
    • Green

Preschool Category

(Open to children of all levels in preschools within East Coast GRC)

  • Create an A4-sized poster using any art medium (e.g. crayon, colour pencils, paint etc.)
  • Entries for this category must highlight a clear message on keeping East Coast caring, vibrant and green. For example:

    • Please Stop Littering
    • Hoarding & Cluttering Is Dangerous
    • Let’s Reduce, Reuse & Recycle

STEP 3

Prepare the entry for submission

Open Category

Take a photo of your entry or scan it. Keep the original safely with you.

We may request for it later for verification before collection of prizes.

Preschool Category

Write your child/ward’s full name, class and the name of his/her preschool at the back of the entry.

Please submit the original copy of your child/ward’s completed poster to his/her teacher by 7 July 2023. The preschool will collate and submit the entries to the contest secretariat.

Results will be announced in July 2023.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Through this contest, we aim to promote community spirit and appreciation for our neighbourhoods in this sunny side of Singapore.

We hope that this contest gives our children and their families across generations the chance to bond and share what they love about our East Coast together, and ways we can all make East Coast a more caring, vibrant and green place to live, work and play.
For the Open Category, the artwork or video should reflect at least one of our pillars of East Coast GRC, and that is “Building a Caring Community”, “Creating a Vibrant Environment” and “Shaping a Green Future”.

For the Preschool Category, the poster should highlight a clear message on keeping East Coast caring, vibrant and green. For example, “Please Stop Littering”, “Hoarding & Cluttering Is Dangerous”, “Let’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” or other relevant messages.
This contest is open to:
  1. Residents, regardless of age, living in East Coast GRC
  2. Children enrolled in a preschool within East Coast GRC
Members of the judging panel from the East Coast Town Council will not be eligible to participate in this contest.

To give all residents and children a fair and equal chance at winning a prize:

Open Category
We will only be able to accept 1 entry per household.

Preschool Category
We can accept 1 entry per child.

All residents are required to use their real names for the submission. We will verify your name, NRIC number and address against your submitted details in the collection of the prize.

Please submit the original entry to your child/ward’s preschool by 7 July 2023. The preschool will send in the completed artwork on your behalf. Remember to clearly indicate your child’s name, class and school on the artwork before submission.

Please collate and mail the original entries of your centre’s children to:

The entries must reach us by 14 July 2023.

All entries have to be cleared of any watermarks or copyright information.

The maximum file size for each video submission is 10GB.

Open Category
1st prize: $1,000 cash
2nd prize: $700 cash
3rd prize: $400 cash
26 x consolation prizes: $50 cash each

Preschool Category
1st prize: $1,000 cash
2nd prize: $700 cash
3rd prize: $400 cash

The winners will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Thematic Alignment
    • Is the entry aligned with the given theme?
  • Creativity & Originality
    • Does the entry demonstrate the use of imagination and original ideas to convey the message?
  • Visual Appeal (for 2D artwork / poster) or Technical Organisation (for video)
    • 2D artwork – Is the entry pleasing and attractive to look at, with the ability to capture the attention of viewers?
    • Video – Picture and sound quality
  • Content / Messaging
    • Does the entry carry a coherent and clear message?

Winners will be notified via email by end-July 2023.

All submitted works must be original and the resident must have the full copyright ownership to the submitted artwork or video. East Coast Town Council reserves the rights to the ownership and use of the videos and artworks once they are submitted for the contest. The Town Council may publish the videos and/or artwork on any of its social media channels and any other mediums it deems fit.
